Fishing Report

Big Thompson below Olympus Dam to Drake:

Water level has been fluctuating but is currently at 127 CFS, as of Wednesday, May 24th. Water is still clear and is fishing very good, using Tungsten Micro Mayflies #14, Tungsten Princes #14, and Tungsten Pheasant Tails #16, trailed with RS2 #20, Flashback Pheasant Tails #20, Bat Wing Baetis #20, Barr's Emerger #20, or the foam wing RS2 #20. Dry Flies to use are a SnowShoe Dun BWO #20, Thorax Baetis #20, Sparkle Dun Baetis #22, trailing with RS2 #20 or emerging Baetis #20. Stone fly Stimmies and Caddis are starting to work in the evenings as well.

Big Thompson below Drake:

Fishing good using Tungsten Prince Nymphs #14, Tungsten Micro Stonefly (gold) #16, or a Copper John #14, trailed with a Rainbow Warrior #18, Lightning Bug #18, or a Bat Wing #18. Dry Flies use a Royal Wulff #18, Snowshoe Dun Cluster #20, or a Pearl Elk Hair Caddis #18.

Roaring River in RMNP:

Fishing is fair using Pearl Elk Hair Caddis #18, Schlotter's Foam Ant #18, or a Snowshoe Cluster Midge #18, trailed with a Copper-beaded Micro Mayfly #18 or a Crystal Hunchback Baetis #20. However, the flow is on the increase and is a bit murky. Egg flies will also work great.

Moraine Park and the Upper Big Thompson at Fern Lake Trailhead:

Fishing is slow to fair, depending on temperature (warmer days are better). Fishing best with a Pearl Elk Hair Caddis #18, Transparant #18, trailed with Copper-beaded Pheasant Tails #18 or #20. Water level is very high, and will keep rising through mid June, making fishing tough.

Glacier Creek:

Fishing slow to fair, but best on warm days, using Elk Hair Caddis #18 or #20, trailed with a Transparant #18 or a Copper Micro Mayfly #18. Water level is also very high here, and will continue to rise through mid June, making fishing difficult.

St. Vrain River in Wild Basin:

Fishing slow to fair, using Para Stimulator Rubber Legged Ant #16, trailed with a Copper Micro Mayfly #18.

Lily Lake:

Fishing good, using Scuds #18 (olive or orange) or Pheasant Tails #16 underneath.  Fishing very good in the evenings on dry flies Orange Asher #16 Hair wing Adams #16 and small Callibaetis #16.

Mary's Lake:

Fishing is good, using pink and orange Power Bait. Some luck using Copper Kastmasters.

Lake Estes:

Fishing very good, using Orange Ashers #16 or #18, or a Prince Nymph #14 trailed with a #16 Pheasant Tail. Pink Power Bait, Salmon Eggs, or Super Duper Lures in gold or copper, or Gold Z-ray lures.  Fly and bubble set ups have been great near the power plant

Best Bet:

Dream Lake (1 mile hike from Bear Lake) Still half iced over, but the fish are biting, using Orange Ashers #18, Parachute Adams #20, or Copper Beaded Pheasant Tails #18.

Liam with a nice Rainbow on the Big Thompson.
