Fishing Report Big Thompson below Olympus Dam to Drake: Water level is currently at about 525 CFS, as of Monday, June 30th, 2008. Water level is going down, and fishing is good, using Tungsten Micro Mayfly #12, Tungsten Prince Nymph #12, Tungsten Pheasant Tails #14, Rubber-legged Copper John olive #14, Tungsten 20-incher #12 or a Tungsten Flash Prince #14, trailed with Mike's PHD orange or green #18, Wilcox's Lint Bug #18, Sow Bug-light tan #18, soft-hackle Sow Bug #18, Rainbow Warrior #16, San Juan Worm #12 or a Little Green Machine #18. Dry Flies to use are a Royal Wulff #18, Pearl Elk Hair Caddis #18, or a Parachute Adam #18. Kauffman's yellow Stonefly Stimmie #14 should also have good results. Big Thompson below Drake:
Fishing good, with water level lowering. Lead with a Tungsten Flash Prince #14, Barr's Tung Teaser #14, Hot Wire Prince #14 or a Copper John #14, trailed with a Rainbow Warrior #16, Little Green Machine pheasant tail #18, Mike's PHD green #18, RS2 dun #18, Soft-hackle Sow Bug #18, Quasimodo Pheasant Tail #18 or Soft-hackle orange #18. Dry flies to use are a Royal Wulff #18, Pearl Elk Hair Caddis #18, or a Stonefly Stimmie #14. At bottom of North Fork water is murky, so flashier flies better. Rocky Mountain National Park: High Mountain Lakes:
Lower elevation lakes are iced off. Mostly iced off. Best luck on Fern Lake, using nymphs. Use a Tungsten Micro Mayfly or Pheasant Tail #14, trailed with a copper-beaded micro Mayfly #20, crystal Hunchback Baetis #20, or a transparant #16. Best to cast into the inlet and let current take out to middle of Lake. Sprague Lake, Loch Vale, Dream, Ouzel, Fern, Mills, Spruce and Odessa are iced-off. Ant patterns, small nymphs, and Parachute Adams #20 are your best bets, with a small bead-headed dropper. Moraine Park and Upper Big T:
Water level is high, but fishing fair to good. Fishing best in mid to late day. Best luck with Pearl Elkhair caddis #16 or #18 or a Schlotter's Foam ant #18, dropped with a copper-beaded pheasant tail #18 or a brown Gidget #18. Glacier Creek: Open and fishing fair, with water level high. Best luck for stream fishing in the Park. Try #18 Parachute Adam and #18 Pheasant Tails, or a Parachute Ant #18, dropped with a copper-beaded micro mayfly #18. Roaring River: Fishing fair with water high. Spot fish for Cutts on the side and cast right in front of them. Use a Pearl Elkhair Caddis #16, Parachute Ants #18 or a Parachute Adam #18. For nymphs use a Tungsten Micro Mayfly #16, Tung. WD40 chocolate #20, Tung. Midge red #18, Tung. Rainbow Warrior #18 or an Egg pattern #18. Also try a Deers Hair Ant #16 and Stonefly stimmies. Try a Slackwater Stone #14 or a Para caddis #14.
N. St. Vrain in Wild Basin:
Fishing slow, with very high water. Try a Parachute Adam #18, Stone fly Stimmie #16, or a Deer Hair Ant #16, trailing with a copper-beaded pheasant tail #18, gold-beaded Gidget #18, or a tungsten WD40 #18. Lily Lake:
Fishing good with suspended nymphs. Best luck on a Tungsten Micro Mayfly #16, trailed with a Barr's pure red midge #22. Fish for cruisers. For dries, use Callibaetis #16, Orange Asher #18, Renegade #18, trailed with Scuds #18 or Damsel Nymphs #16.
